domains yahoo

A web address, like a memorable street address, can help people find you online. If you have a GeoCities Free or GeoCities Plus plan, you'll find your site at a web address that includes a GeoCities domain name plus your Yahoo! ID, written like this: http://www.geocities.com/yourYahoo!ID. To view your site, you or a site visitor will just need to enter your web address in the address bar of a browser.A domain name is also a web address, but a domain is unique: There can be only one widgetdesigns.com or yahoo.com. When you sign up for a GeoCities Pro or Yahoo! domain plan, you'll be able to choose your own free personalized domain name. The DNS (Domain Name System) records control the functionality of domain names. Each registered domain name has a DNS record that includes MX, A, and CNAME records and name servers. You can manage the DNS record for your domain name by clicking the "Manage Advanced DNS Settings" link on your Domain Control Panel. On the following page you'll be able to make changes to your MX, A, and CNAME records and name servers.

To access the Domain Control Panel:

  1. Sign in to your Business Control Panel. (If you have not yet signed in with your Yahoo! ID and password, you'll be prompted to do so here.)
  2. Once signed in, you will see modules for each of your domain names on the "Manage My Services" page. Select the "Domain Control Panel" link that corresponds to the domain whose record you wish to edit.

To access your advanced DNS settings:

  1. From your Domain Control Panel, click the "Manage Advanced DNS Settings" link.
  2. On the following page you can set up or make changes to your name servers and MX, A, and domain yahoo records.

WHOIS is a multifaceted term that refers to the directories that store the contact and technical information for your domain as well as the applications used to search these directories.

Whenever you buy a domain name — from any registrar — you will also be required by the Internet's governing body, domain yahoo, to register certain technical and contact information for that domain. Required information includes:

  • the domain name
  • the domain name registration date
  • the owner's name and address
  • the physical address, email address, and phone number of the domain's administrative, technical, and billing contacts (these contacts may all be the same)
  • name server settings

A WHOIS database stores this information. domain yahoo (Internet Network Information Center), the central organization charged with managing the registration of domain names and IP addresses, oversees a central WHOIS database that stores information provided by registrars across the globe. A domain name registrar such as Yahoo! may also maintain its own searchable WHOIS database.

WHOIS also refers to the set of rules (protocol) that defines how an application can search these directories of domain information. The internal structure of directories managed by InterNIC and individual registrars, as well as any applications or utilities you might use to search the databases, are created using WHOIS protocol.

Why search WHOIS directories? A domain's entry provides information about the network and host with which it's associated, as well as general contact information. The public WHOIS database also allows a domain name registrar to see if a domain has already been registered.

Unfortunately, spammers, identity thieves, and other scam artists often mine the public WHOIS for contact names and addresses they can use for their own purposes. To help you protect yourself, Yahoo! now offers private domain registration. domain yahoo
